Brian Froud ~ Runes ~ Sustenance
Fairy Tales
If you are ever walking through the forest
and happen upon a fox
caught in a furrier’s trap
and the fox says to you in a funny little voice:
“Hey, if you help me out of this trap, I’ll grant you a wish!”
and you help the fox out by prying open the trap
with a tree branch
and the fox thanks you
and tells you that he has to go back to his fox hole
to get his magic spell book
to grant your wish
but first he needs to borrow twenty dollars or whatever cash you have on you
I can tell you FOR A FACT
that you are never going to collect on that magic wish.
Even if you wait around until dark.

In the world above, as night draws close, the grasses turn in the wind. Flowers bend. Petals fall. (Wendy Froud)
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

He will love you for the heat you generate,
for the flames you ignite around you,
though he encase your tiny feet in glass
to keep them from scorching the ground.

Another World. Another Time. In the Age of Wonder. A thousand years ago, this land was green and good… until the Crystal cracked. A single piece was lost, a shard of the Crystal. Then strife began and two new races appeared: the cruel Skeksis and the gentle Mystics.

Who is to say who is the wise and who is the foolish? He who laughs in disdain but lives in a self-imposed, barren landscape, or he who stills his soul and listens with his heart for a faery’s song?
